Florida Save Our Home Issues - Welcome

Florida Save Our Home

The taxable base value of your home can go up even though its value decreases and the number of exemptions increase!!!

This site has been created to provide Floridians with information regarding the recapture provision of the Save Our Home initiative.

Almost 400,000 Broward County homeowners will experience the recapture effects of this law, even though their overall market values fell.

It is unknown how many others throughout the state are being impacted.

This site is provided as a way to communicate the issue and provide a way to help Floridians find a way to have this provision corrected.

What is the Recapture provision:

a "recapture" provision may cause your taxable value to rise on a homesteaded property even if your market value dropped from last year. If you have homestead and your "Save Our Homes" (SOH) value is less than the just (market) value, state law requires that your overall assessed value increase each year by the 3% annual cap level until it eventually reaches the same amount as the market value.

Here is what this wiki is intended to do:

  • Communicate what the recapture provision does
  • Provide a way for Floridians to discuss and communicate their opinions of the provision
  • Simplify the ability for Floridians to contact their legislature to voice their opinion
  • Provide a means for Floridians to communicate their desire to have this provision fixed.

PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE

to reduce (or, at least, not increase) the taxable base value of your home when its value decreases or when exemptions are provided to reduce taxability.
